18"x24" - Acrylic and Watercolor over Wax on Canvas
We all have our self-defined identities, however our interpretation of someone’s identity often differs from their own. Part of the “Identity” mini series, this portrait of Marilyn Monroe is Andres' tribute to a pop/cultural/sex/art-worthy icon. Past all the glamour and fame, Marilyn was a human being, and like the rest of us, had some serious downs with her ups. One of her greatest and most memorable quotes is, “We should all start to live before we get too old. Fear is stupid. So are regrets.” Unfortunately, and ironically, her life came to a tragic end all too soon. This piece is meant to be more than just a simple, pretty portrait of someone recognizable; it’s a representation of her life and is meant to emphasize the concept of her quote.
